The Department of Wildlife Conservation has launched a week-long Fire Control initiative from today, February 24, to raise public awareness and address the increasing number of forest fires occurring across the country. This campaign will run until March 2, 2025, in response to the ongoing dry weather conditions that have exacerbated the risk of fires in several areas.

In recent days, there has been a noticeable uptick in forest fires, driven by the severe drought currently affecting the region. Despite the Department's best efforts, limited human resources have hindered its ability to effectively manage and contain the fires, prompting the need for public participation in fire prevention and management.

The Department of Wildlife Conservation emphasized the importance of this Fire Control Week to educate the public about the dangers of forest fires and promote preventative measures. In addition to public awareness campaigns, the Ministry of Wildlife and Forest Resources has directed government institutions to provide additional support to help combat and control the rising number of forest fires.

Authorities are urging communities to take extra precautions during this dry spell and to report any suspicious activities that may lead to fire outbreaks. The success of the initiative will depend largely on the cooperation of both the public and relevant agencies in protecting the country's valuable forest resources.

The Department continues to monitor the situation and is committed to working with government bodies to ensure the safety of both the environment and the public.
