The Department of Meteorology has issued a weather warning as rainfall is expected to intensify over several provinces in Sri Lanka from 24th February. Heavy showers or thundershowers are predicted to affect the Northern, North-central, Eastern, Uva, and Central provinces, as well as the Hambantota district, for the next few days.

In the evening or night, showers and thundershowers may occur in Galle, Matara, Kaluthara, and Rathnapura districts. However, the rest of the island will experience mainly dry conditions.

Misty conditions are also expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva, and North-central provinces, as well as in Kurunegala district, particularly in the mornings.

The general public is advised to take necessary precautions to minimize the risk of damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers. Stay updated with the latest weather advisories and remain safe during adverse weather conditions.
