Air Vice Marshal (Retired) Sampath Thuyacontha, the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, emphasized the government’s commitment to curbing gang violence and ensuring peace across the nation.
"We are taking decisive actions to eliminate organized criminal activities and bring those responsible to justice. Our security forces are fully mobilized, and we are working closely with law enforcement agencies to dismantle these networks," said Thuyacontha.
The Acting Inspector General of Police, Priyantha Weerasuriya, provided an update on the ongoing investigations and law enforcement strategies. "We have made significant strides in identifying and apprehending key members of underworld gangs," stated Weerasuriya. "We are also enhancing intelligence-sharing among various agencies to ensure a more coordinated approach to tackling this issue."
The briefing also touched upon the security measures being implemented in major urban areas, including the deployment of additional police personnel and the strengthening of surveillance systems. Both officials reiterated the importance of community cooperation in tackling crime and ensuring a secure environment for all citizens.
