Two Suspects Shot Dead by Police After Attempted Gun Snatching in Kotahena

According to Police Media Spokesman, a Police Constable (PC) was also injured during the operation. The suspects, identified as the perpetrators of the shooting, reportedly tried to snatch a gun from one of the officers and open fire while being led to the location where their weapons were concealed.

The incident unfolded around 9:00 p.m. on February 21, when Shashi Kumar, 38, was shot dead inside a mobile phone shop on Kotahena Street. The police spokesperson, SSP Buddhika Manathunga, confirmed that the victim had been attacked by two men who arrived on a motorcycle. Despite being rushed to Colombo National Hospital, Shashi Kumar later succumbed to his injuries.

The police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting and the subsequent events leading to the death of the two suspects.
