The Colombo-Batticaloa train service has been successfully restored following a derailment caused by a collision between the Meenagaya Express and a wild elephant. According to the Railway Control Room Office, the locomotive involved in the incident has been cleared, and train operations on the route resumed as scheduled this morning (21st February).
Earlier, the collision had completely halted train services on the Colombo-Batticaloa line, disrupting travel. In addition, restrictions were placed on train services from Colombo to Gal Oya and from Batticaloa to Hingurakgoda.
With train services now back to normal, the Control Room Office confirmed that the fuel-laden train, which had been halted at the Gal Oya Railway Station, was successfully moved towards Batticaloa. Train operations are expected to continue without further delays.
