Opposition Leader Calls for Immediate Action on Security Concerns

While acknowledging that security measures have been implemented for judges, Premadasa pointed out that there have been previous notifications indicating that these security provisions could be withdrawn. 

He warned that the rising insecurity is becoming more widespread, with civilians and even journalists, particularly those reporting on sensitive matters, increasingly facing threats.

Premadasa drew attention to the specific case of journalist Chamuditha, whose court-ordered security was abruptly withdrawn, despite the clear legal mandate for protection. 

He urged the government to take swift action to prioritize the safety of the public and the media sector, stressing that those working within the judiciary and journalism are especially vulnerable.

The Opposition Leader called for a thorough investigation into the recent murder, demanding that the authorities take appropriate actions to ensure the safety of all involved in upholding justice. He further stressed the need for the government to protect public representatives from such threats.

Premadasa also cautioned that the collapse of the judicial system due to escalating violence would endanger society as a whole. Referring to the government's previous promises to strengthen national security and tackle criminal activity, he urged them to fulfill these commitments and take concrete steps to protect the judiciary, media, and the public.
