
Sri Lanka and Maldives Strengthen Diplomatic Ties

Maldives Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Abdulla Khaleel, expressed the country's commitment to enhancing its relationship with Sri Lanka during his visit to Colombo.

Speaking to reporters after meeting Sri Lanka's Foreign Minister, Vijitha Herath, Dr. Khaleel highlighted the fruitful discussions that covered a wide array of topics, including economic and trade cooperation, tourism, renewable energy, education, vocational training, fisheries, health, youth empowerment, sports, consular relations, and regional collaboration.

Dr. Khaleel expressed his appreciation for Sri Lanka's significant contributions to the Maldives' socioeconomic development and reiterated the importance of Sri Lankan expatriates in supporting the Maldivian economy. "Sri Lanka has played a vital role in our development, and we are grateful for its unwavering support," he said.
The Minister further noted that Sri Lanka serves as a second home to many Maldivians, with a large community residing in the country. "We are thankful for the hospitality and goodwill extended by the Government and people of Sri Lanka towards Maldivians," Dr. Khaleel added.
Both sides also agreed to explore more opportunities to boost trade and investment, with an emphasis on creating favorable conditions for private sector collaboration. The two nations are eager to work together to overcome challenges and deepen the bond of friendship between their peoples.
This strengthened partnership reflects the growing commitment between the Maldives and Sri Lanka to advance shared interests for mutual prosperity.
