The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has announced a planned allocation of US$ 900 million to Sri Lanka for the year 2025, aimed at supporting the country's development activities. This funding will focus on improving Sri Lanka's microeconomic stability, as well as enhancing sectors including energy, agriculture, finance, tourism, and skills development.

The assistance will be provided subject to the approval of the Sri Lankan government and will be channeled through various mechanisms, including policy-based loans, results-based loans, investment projects, and technical assistance projects. According to Chelpon Mambatova, the country operations manager for ADB, discussions with the Sri Lankan government are ongoing to align the assistance with the country's needs.

Further negotiations are scheduled for March, where plans for the 2025-2028 period will be finalized, setting the course for future collaboration between Sri Lanka and the Asian Development Bank.

The ADB's support comes at a crucial time, as Sri Lanka seeks to stabilize and rejuvenate its economy, aiming to build a more resilient and sustainable future for the island nation.
