The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has commenced an investigation following a formal complaint lodged by Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa regarding allegations of his unlawful involvement in a law school examination.

The complaint was filed by the organization "Citizen Power Against Bribery, Corruption, and Waste," which has raised concerns about Rajapaksa’s potential illegal acquisition of his law degree.

The allegations surfaced following an interview broadcast on a popular social media platform, where it was claimed that Rajapaksa had managed to sit for a law examination with the assistance of two lawyers.

The accusations suggest that this was done through illegal means, sparking public outcry and prompting an official investigation.

In response to the serious nature of the claims, the Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) has instructed the Director of the CID to conduct a thorough inquiry in line with the Criminal Procedure Code.

As the investigation unfolds, authorities are committed to ensuring a fair and comprehensive review of the situation. The CID’s inquiry will look into the specifics of the allegations, including the involvement of any third parties, and assess whether any laws have been violated in the process.
