The "Apekshawe Pratama Mangalya" (Festival of Hope) 'Tower Drama Festival' organized by the Tower Hall Theatre Foundation under the Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs for the 5th time was inaugurated on February 11th under the patronage of Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, Chairman of the Tower Hall Theatre Foundation, at the Maradana Tower and Elphinstone Theatres.
This festival is organized with the aim of creating a quality audience for enjoying drama, improving the income level of dramatists, promoting drama and building a broad social discourse on drama.
This year, 34 plays, including 14 long plays, 12 short plays and 08 children's plays, will be staged for 68 performances over a period of 10 days.
During the 10 days of the drama festival, 20 artists, each with two Tower artists, will be awarded the once-in-a-lifetime 'Tower' award and financial prizes, and the first award was presented to veteran artist Wijeratne Warakagoda by Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya.
