Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bat first in the opening ODI of their series against Australia at the R. Premadasa Stadium (RPS) in Colombo. The match, set in overcast conditions, will see Sri Lanka aiming to put up a strong total on the board, with hopes of setting a challenging target for the visitors.

Sri Lanka's captain, Dasun Shanaka, expressed confidence in the batting lineup, hoping to take advantage of the pitch's early conditions. "The pitch has a bit of moisture in the morning, and we want to use that to our benefit by putting runs on the board first," said Shanaka during the toss.

On the other hand, Australia's captain, Pat Cummins, stated that his team was looking forward to the challenge. "We have a strong bowling attack and are ready to restrict Sri Lanka, but we will need to stay disciplined throughout," said Cummins, reflecting a balanced confidence in his side’s abilities.

The match will be a key fixture for both teams as they look to establish momentum in the ODI series, with Australia hoping to carry their dominant form into the subcontinent, while Sri Lanka will look to capitalize on the home advantage.
