The Colombo Magistrate's Court has issued arrest warrants against former Member of Parliament, Hirunika Premachandra, and several others for their failure to appear before the court today.

The warrants were issued by Colombo Chief Magistrate, Thanuja Lakmali, after Premachandra and the others did not attend court proceedings related to a complaint regarding a road-blocking demonstration that took place in the Cinnamon Gardens Police Division in 2022.

The case, which was taken up today, revolves around the demonstration that disrupted traffic and public order in the area. Despite the legal summons, the accused, including the former MP, failed to appear, leading to the court’s decision to issue arrest warrants for their non-compliance.

This development has added further attention to the case, with the public closely watching the legal consequences facing the involved individuals, including Hirunika Premachandra, known for her previous political career.

As of now, law enforcement authorities are expected to act on the warrants to ensure the appearance of the accused in court for the continuation of legal proceedings.
