"Ella Odyssey Nanu Oya" Train Service Launched to Boost Tourism

A new train route, the "Ella Odyssey Nanu Oya," was officially launched today to cater to the growing demand from tourists eager to experience Sri Lanka's scenic hill country. The train will run between Nanu Oya and Badulla, offering travelers a stunning journey through some of the island's most picturesque landscapes.

This new service, initiated by the Minister of Transport, Highways, Ports, and Civil Aviation, Bimal Ratnayake, and announced by the General Manager of Railways, Dhammika Jayasundara, will operate daily except Tuesdays. The train will depart from Nanu Oya at 08:10 AM and return from Badulla at 01:00 PM.

Travelers will be treated to mesmerizing views at several popular spots, including Elgin Falls, Summit Level, Idalgashinna Railway Station, and the iconic Nine Arch Bridge. The train will slow down for six-minute stops at Elgin Falls, Summit Level, and Idalgashinna, while passengers will have ten minutes to enjoy the view at the Nine Arch Bridge.

Ticket prices for the "Ella Odyssey Nanu Oya" service are as follows:

  • First Class Reserved Seats (AFC) – Rs. 7,000
  • Second Class Reserved Seats (SCR) – Rs. 6,000
  • Third Class Reserved Seats (TCR) – Rs. 5,000

The introduction of this scenic train route is expected to provide an enhanced travel experience, making it easier for tourists to explore the beauty of Sri Lanka's hill country.
