A sudden island-wide power outage occurred earlier today, disrupting electricity supply across the country. The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) confirmed that its System Control Centre is actively working to resolve the issue and restore power.
The Ministry of Power and Energy later disclosed that the outage was triggered by an "emergency situation" at the Panadura grid substation, though further details have yet to be provided.
In response to the power loss, the National Water Supply and Drainage Board has issued an urgent request to the public to conserve water. Due to the ongoing power outage, disruptions in water supply are expected, and authorities are urging the community to use water sparingly until the power is fully restored.
The CEB is continuing efforts to bring the situation under control, and updates will be provided as the restoration process progresses.
