Sri Lanka recorded a notable increase in workers' remittances for January 2025, with a total of US$ 573 million, marking a 17.5% year-on-year growth compared to US$ 487.6 million received in January 2024.

The latest figures were shared in the weekly economic report released by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL).

This growth follows a robust performance in December 2024, where the country received US$ 613.8 million in foreign remittances, reflecting the continued strength of Sri Lankans working abroad in contributing to the nation’s economy.

The uptick in remittances highlights a positive trend in financial inflows, playing a crucial role in supporting the country's economic recovery and stability.

The CBSL report underscores the importance of remittances in Sri Lanka's foreign exchange reserves, with workers' contributions remaining vital to the country's economic growth.
