Senior Additional Secretary to the President, Russell Afonso, announced that cleaning activities at 457 beaches across the country will begin 9th February 2025. The initiative aims to enhance the environmental and economic value of the country's coastal areas.

Speaking on the Weekend Press program on Independent Television, Afonso highlighted that the cleanliness of the beaches is not only vital for the environment but also crucial for boosting the economy, particularly industries tied to tourism and coastal activities.

"This project is a part of our broader efforts to improve the overall condition of our coastal regions, providing a cleaner and more sustainable environment for both residents and visitors," Afonso stated.

The beach cleaning initiative will involve various government agencies and local communities working together to ensure the timely and efficient restoration of the country’s popular beachfronts. With this program, the government aims to attract more tourists, improve local livelihoods, and contribute to the long-term sustainability of the coastal economy.

Further details on the schedule and volunteer opportunities will be provided by relevant authorities in the coming days.
