59 Sri Lankans killed in Russia-Ukraine war - Foreign Minister

Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath informed Parliament today that a total of 554 Sri Lankans have been recruited by the Russian military for the ongoing war in Ukraine. As of now, 59 of those enlisted have been confirmed dead.

Minister Herath disclosed that the Sri Lankan diplomatic missions are actively involved in verifying the deaths and are working diligently to gather further details.

 The government has expressed deep concern over the welfare of its citizens and is coordinating closely with Russian authorities to ensure the safety of the remaining Sri Lankans involved in the conflict.
