Sri Lanka Railways has announced the suspension of third-class seat reservations on select trains, with affected services now operating as regular third-class carriages. The move impacts the following routes:

Sri Lanka Railways Halts Third-Class Seat Reservations on Select Trains, Expands Second-Class Options

  • Colombo Fort to Badulla (5:55 a.m. & 8:30 a.m. departures)
  • Colombo Fort to Talaimannar (3:45 p.m. departure)

Passengers who previously held reservations for third-class seating will now travel in general third-class compartments. In response, the railway has increased the number of reserved second-class seats on these trains, offering an upgraded alternative for commuters.

The decision aims to streamline train operations, and passengers are encouraged to consider second-class seating for a more comfortable journey. Sri Lanka Railways assures that measures are in place to accommodate passengers effectively during this transition.
