Global Leaders Extend Greetings on Sri Lanka's 77th Independence Day

Sri Lanka's 77th Independence Day has been marked by an outpouring of greetings from countries around the world, reaffirming the strong diplomatic ties and cooperation Sri Lanka shares with its international partners.

The United States, a long-time ally of Sri Lanka, extended its warm wishes through Secretary of State Marco Rubio. In his official statement, Secretary Rubio highlighted the enduring partnership between the two nations, built on shared democratic values and robust human ties. 

He also expressed optimism about expanding trade, investment, and security cooperation in the years ahead.

India's External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, joined in extending Independence Day greetings via social media, reaffirming India’s commitment to deepening the multifaceted partnership with Sri Lanka. Dr. Jaishankar expressed his hopes for continued growth in bilateral relations.

China, a key partner in Sri Lanka’s development, sent its Independence Day greetings through an official message from President Xi Jinping, Prime Minister Li Keqiang, and Foreign Minister Wang Yi. The message, conveyed by China’s Ambassador to Sri Lanka, emphasized China’s ongoing commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in various sectors, including trade and infrastructure development.

Other nations such as France, Belgium, and Cuba also extended their congratulations, underscoring the widespread and long-standing diplomatic relations Sri Lanka enjoys globally.

The Government of Sri Lanka expressed its heartfelt appreciation for these greetings, reaffirming its commitment to fostering meaningful partnerships with the international community. Sri Lanka remains dedicated to promoting peace, cooperation, and mutual prosperity across the globe.
