First SL chairman of John Keells Holdings Ltd Kandiah Balendra passes away

Sri Lanka has lost one of its most respected corporate leaders, Deshamanya Kandiah "Ken"Balendra, who passed away at the age of 84. Balendra, a trailblazer in the corporate world, had an illustrious career spanning several decades, leaving a lasting impact on Sri Lanka's business landscape.

Born in 1940, Balendra served in numerous prominent roles, including as the first Sri Lankan chairman of John Keells Holdings Ltd., the country’s largest conglomerate. 

His leadership extended beyond John Keells, with significant contributions to Brandix Lanka Ltd. and the South Asia Regional Fund of the Commonwealth Development Corporation.

Throughout his career, Balendra was recognized for his strategic vision, commitment to growth, and dedication to corporate excellence. His leadership in various industries earned him numerous accolades, including the prestigious title of Deshamanya, one of Sri Lanka's highest national honors.

Balendra's passing is a loss not only to the corporate world but to the entire nation, as he was known for his contributions to the economic development and success of Sri Lanka’s business sector. He leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire future generations of leaders.
