The Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) is set to hold its inaugural meeting on February 18. COPE Chairman Nishantha Samaraweera announced that on the first day, the heads of the National Youth Services Council will be summoned to appear before the committee.

Additionally, officials from the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) are scheduled to attend a session on February 20.

The newly formed COPE committee will comprise 15 members from the government, although no opposition representatives have been nominated as of yet.

The committee's formation and its upcoming hearings are expected to bring greater scrutiny and transparency to the functioning of public enterprises in the country.
