The government has announced plans to celebrate the 77th Independence Day with a series of events from February 1st to 7th, including the hoisting of the national flag on all government buildings and the decoration of buildings with electric lights on February 3rd and 4th. These initiatives aim to honor the nation's independence and will be observed across the country.

The final rehearsal for the Independence Day celebrations took place today (February 2nd) at the Independence Square, with participation from security forces chiefs, including Secretary of Defense, retired Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuiyakontha.

The rehearsal included preparations for various elements of the celebration, such as tri-service parades and cultural performances.

A devotional sermon will be held at the Independence Hall tonight (February 2nd) at 9:30 pm, as part of the ongoing celebrations. Additionally, an alms offering ceremony is scheduled for tomorrow morning (February 3rd) at 6:30 am at the Gangaramaya Temple in Hunupitiya.

The Ministry of Public Administration has issued directives to all government institutions to ensure the national flag is hoisted on their buildings and that decorations with lights are set up in time for the planned dates. The celebrations, which will culminate on Tuesday, February 4th, are expected to be marked with pride and unity across the nation.
