No Helicopter Used for President Anura Kumara’s Jaffna Visit
However, the Ministry of Defence states that the President did not use any helicopters belonging to the Ministry of Defence for the trip in question.
Also, information has been revealed with evidence that the President traveled in his car to events held in Jaffna.
Accordingly, this news circulating on social media is revealed to be completely false news.
A series of videos are currently circulating on social media claiming that President Anura Kumara Dissanayake used three helicopters to attend several programs held in Jaffna recently.
However, it is not possible to say who is traveling in the helicopters shown in the relevant video.
Expressing his views on this matter, the Media Spokesperson of the Ministry of Defence, Colonel M.B.B. Nalin Herath, stated that the President did not use any aircraft for the relevant visit to Jaffna.
We also inquired from the Air Force Media Spokesperson, Group Captain Eranda Geeganage, regarding this matter and he also stated that President Anura Kumara Dissanayake did not use any helicopter belonging to the Sri Lanka Air Force for the relevant trip.
The Air Force Media Spokesperson further stated that the helicopters shown in the video posted on social media claiming to have been used by the President have been identified as Mi-17 and 412 helicopters and that the relevant helicopters will not be used, at least not for this year's Independence Day celebrations.
The Air Force Media Spokesperson also stated that when examining the relevant footage, there is doubt as to whether the footage was recorded in Sri Lanka or in a foreign country.
When observing all these facts, it is confirmed that President Anura Kumara Dissanayake did not use helicopters for his visit to Jaffna.
