The night mail train service between Colombo Fort and Kankesanthurai, which was temporarily suspended due to the ongoing modernisation of the Northern Railway Line, resumed yesterday after a hiatus of nearly two years.

According to the Railways Department's General Manager, Dhammika Jayasundara, the long-awaited return of the express mail train marks a significant milestone in the restoration of services disrupted by the upgrading project.

The night mail train departs from Colombo Fort Railway Station at 8:00 pm and is scheduled to arrive at Kankesanthurai Railway Station at 4:35 am, providing an essential transportation link for the Northern region. Passengers can now once again rely on the service for efficient overnight travel.

This resumption is expected to benefit both commuters and the freight industry, enhancing connectivity along the Northern Railway Line.
