In response to the alert, the Sri Lanka Navy swiftly mobilized a team specialized in Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) affairs from the Western Naval Command. Firefighting vehicles were also deployed to the scene.

The Navy firefighters successfully unlocked the container, uncovering that a portion of the stored cleaning chemicals had caught fire. With the help of port workers and the port fire brigade, the chemicals were safely removed to contain the fire and prevent its spread.
