The 77th Independence Day celebrations in Sri Lanka will take place on February 4, 2025, at Independence Square in Colombo, with this year's theme being "Let's Rally for National Renaissance" (Jathika Punarudhayata Pelagasemu). The announcement was made by Minister of Public Administration, A. H. M. H. Aberathne, during a press conference held at the Department of Government Information on January 30.

Speaking at the briefing, Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Air Vice Marshal (Retired) Sampath Thuyacontha, revealed that there will be significant changes to the structure of the annual Independence Day military parade.

This year, the parade will feature 1,873 personnel, marking a reduction of 1,511 members compared to the previous year's event.

In addition to the reduced personnel, armored vehicles from the three armed forces will not be included in this year's celebrations.

The Navy will carry out 25 traditional gun salutes, and only three aircraft will be used, down from the 19 aircraft involved in the 2024 celebrations.

These adjustments come as part of an effort to streamline the event, in keeping with the new theme focused on national rejuvenation. The celebrations are expected to be a significant reflection of Sri Lanka's ongoing commitment to progress and unity.
