Landslide Risk Forces Evacuation in Nuwara Eliya District

Due to ongoing heavy rains and the threat of landslides in the Hyporest division, many residents have been evacuated to safer locations today. As a precautionary measure, 36 individuals from six families have been temporarily sheltered at the Hyporest School.
The Nuwara Eliya District Disaster Unit has assured that the Disaster Relief Services Center is taking immediate action to provide necessary aid to the evacuees.
In addition, adverse weather conditions have caused significant disruptions to traffic on several roads in the Hanguranketha and Walapane areas, further impacting the Nuwara Eliya district. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and advising the public to exercise caution when traveling.
