In a significant step towards modernizing Sri Lanka's electoral system, Elections Commissioner General Saman Sri Ratnayake has announced the commencement of an island-wide initiative to digitize voter registers.

Speaking at a ceremony where certificates were presented to 42 Grama Niladharis for their contributions, Ratnayake highlighted the shift from traditional paper-based data recording to an online-based system for preparing the voter register.

The digital register is expected to improve the accuracy and efficiency of voter data management, enabling smoother election processes in the future. The initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance the accessibility and transparency of Sri Lanka's electoral systems, aligning with global trends in digital governance. The ceremony also celebrated the dedication of Grama Niladharis who played a key role in expanding the digital register.

Ratnayake emphasized that this technological advancement will help streamline election procedures, ensure greater voter inclusivity, and minimize errors in voter identification and registration.
