The much-anticipated Mahaweli Renaissance Week officially began today (27) in the Thambuttegama and Galnewa regions, centered around the Mahaweli 'H' zone. The week-long program, which runs until February 2nd, is aimed at making Sri Lanka self-sufficient through enhanced cultivation practices.

Today has been designated as Shramadana Day, a day of community labor, as part of the initiative. The Mahaweli Renaissance Week, set to encompass all 10 Mahaweli zones, will incorporate a variety of programs designed to foster not only physical development but also the spiritual and social advancement of Sri Lankans.

Alongside Shramadana Day, the week will feature special days focused on Institution Development, Agriculture, Irrigation, and Farmers' Appreciation, providing opportunities for the public to engage in meaningful activities that benefit both their communities and the nation as a whole.

This program marks a significant step towards revitalizing Sri Lanka's agricultural infrastructure and promoting sustainable development across the country.
