Yoshitha Rajapaksa, the son of former Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, is set to appear before court today, January 27, following his arrest on charges of money laundering. He was apprehended on January 25 near the Beliatta Expressway entrance and brought to the Colombo Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for questioning.

After approximately four hours of interrogation, the Colombo Aluthgama No. 05 Additional Magistrate Pavithra Sanjeevani remanded Rajapaksa, who faces allegations under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. 

The charges relate to the purchase of a house and land valued at Rs. 34 million in Sirimal Place, Ratmalana.

Rajapaksa’s legal team is expected to present arguments as he is brought back to court for further proceedings.
