The Department of Meteorology has issued a weather advisory for today, predicting showers and thunder showers at times in Uva and Southern provinces, as well as in Ampara, Batticaloa, Matale, and Nuwara Eliya districts. A few showers are also expected in Northern, North-Central, and North-Western provinces, along with Trincomalee district.

The forecast indicates that Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, along with Kandy district, will experience showers or thunder showers, particularly during the evening or night. Fairly heavy showers, around 50 mm, are expected at some locations in Sabaragamuwa province, Galle, and Matara districts.

In addition, fairly strong winds, ranging between 30 to 40 km/h, are anticipated over the Eastern slopes of the central hills, and in Northern, North-Central, North-Western provinces, as well as Matale and Hambantota districts.

Misty conditions are also expected during the morning in the Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in Galle and Matara districts.

The general public is kindly requested to take necessary precautions to minimize potential damage from temporary localized strong winds and lightning during the thundershowers.

WEATHER FORECAST FOR SEA AREAS AROUND THE ISLAND DURING NEXT 24 HOURS

Condition of Rain:

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Batticaloa to Galle via Hambantota and Matara. Showers or thundershowers may occur at few places in the other sea areas around the island.

Winds:

Winds will be north-easterly and speed will be (25-35) kmph. Wind speed can increase up to (45-50) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and Mannar and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.

State of Sea:

The sea areas off the coasts extending from Colombo to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and Mannar and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota will be fairly rough at times.

Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
