The much-anticipated Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) elections for the Executive Committee, scheduled for March 31, 2025, have seen only the current chairman Shammi Silva and his party submitting nominations.

This marks a significant development in the run-up to the election, which is the first to be held under the newly amended constitution of Sri Lanka Cricket.

The constitutional amendments have also led to a notable reduction in the number of voting members, from 147 to just 60, making this year's election more streamlined.

The deadline for submitting nominations ended on January 23, 2025, and with only Silva's party stepping forward, the race for leadership seems to be dominated by the current administration.

However, the process is far from over. The deadline for submitting objections to the nominations has been extended until January 29, 2025, allowing for any potential challenges to be raised before the final candidate list is confirmed.

The elections will determine the Sri Lanka Cricket Executive Committee for the term from 2025 to 2027, and the outcome could play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Sri Lankan cricket.
