The National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU) has reported a concerning surge in dengue cases in Sri Lanka, with 3,649 patients recorded in the first three weeks of January 2025. Tragically, two deaths from the mosquito-borne illness have also been confirmed during this period.

The highest number of cases has been reported in the Western Province, with a total of 1,576 cases. Among the districts, Colombo recorded 491 cases, Gampaha saw 558, and Kalutara reported 95 cases.

In response to the rising number of infections, health authorities have identified 22 districts across the country as high-risk areas for dengue transmission. Health officials are closely monitoring these regions to curb the spread of the disease.

The NDCU continues to urge the public to take preventive measures, including eliminating mosquito breeding grounds, to reduce the risk of further outbreaks.
