Former Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa and Wife Granted Bail
The court’s order was issued by Colombo Additional Magistrate Harshana Kekunawela after the couple was produced before the court today.
The funds in question were allegedly obtained from the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) in 2014 under the pretense of providing relief to flood-affected residents in Bingiriya and Narammala. However, the accused are alleged to have misused the money for presidential election campaign activities in 2015.
In addition to Yapa and his wife, two other individuals who were arrested in connection with the case have also been granted bail. The CID had arrested the couple on the evening of January 22, following their involvement in the alleged financial misappropriation.
The investigation into the case continues as authorities seek to clarify the full extent of the funds’ misuse.
