Colombo-Batticaloa Main Road Reopened Following Decrease of rain
The closure was prompted by the opening of the spill gates of the Parakrama Samudra, which led to the inundation of surrounding areas. With the recent decrease in rainfall and the closure of the spill gates, water levels have now receded, allowing authorities to restore access to the vital highway.
The reopening of the road has been carried out under the supervision of the Disaster Management Center (DMC) in collaboration with local police rescue teams. These teams have been actively monitoring the situation and ensuring the safe passage of vehicles along the route.
Residents and travelers are advised to remain cautious while navigating the area, as certain sections of the road may still be subject to occasional water pooling or debris.
The DMC urges the public to stay informed on weather updates and to follow any advisories issued by local authorities. Emergency response teams remain on standby in case of any unforeseen incidents.
The government continues to prioritize flood control measures and preparedness as the region recovers from the recent weather disturbances.
