Namal Rajapaksa, has stated that his father, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, is prepared to vacate the government-allocated residence at any time, should current President Anura Kumara Dissanayake request it.

Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Member of Parliament, Speaking to the media, MP Namal Rajapaksa clarified that the house in question is not a personal property of his father, but a government-owned residence allocated to former Presidents under constitutional provisions.

He emphasized that the family has no objections to vacating the house if instructed to do so by the sitting President, and that a formal written request would be accepted.

Namal Rajapaksa’s comments come amid ongoing debates over the privileges and benefits afforded to former Presidents, with discussions increasingly focusing on government expenditure and entitlements for public officials.

The Rajapaksa family’s willingness to comply with any official directive regarding the residence signals a commitment to respecting the decisions of the current administration.
