A fire at a plastic goods store in the Galle Thanipol Junction area led to the temporary closure of the Galle-Mapalagama main road for over two hours on the evening of January 18th,prompted an immediate response from local authorities and emergency services.
The fire was quickly contained within 45 minutes by the combined efforts of three fire engines and three water bowsers from the Galle Municipal Council, a fire engine from the Navy, as well as police officers, local residents, and naval personnel. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.
Due to the ongoing investigation, Galle Police are examining the cause of the fire. The closure of the main road caused significant traffic delays in the area, but it was reopened shortly after the situation was brought under control.
Authorities are continuing their probe into the incident to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the fire.
