Sri Lanka's Ambassador to Thailand, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, recently met with Sunanta Kangvalkulkij, Director General of Thailand's Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP). The meeting highlighted the strong relationship between the two countries, rooted in cultural, religious, and trade connections.

Ambassador Edirisinghe praised Thailand’s global trade efforts and the DITP’s role in promoting Thai businesses. She also emphasized Sri Lanka’s participation in key Thai trade events like the Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair, Thaifex Anuga, and Style Bangkok in 2025, aiming to showcase Sri Lankan products and build partnerships.

Director General Kangvalkulkij acknowledged Sri Lanka’s active involvement in trade exhibitions and highlighted the potential for stronger trade and tourism ties. Both sides agreed on the importance of the Sri Lanka-Thailand Free Trade Agreement (FTA), set to begin this year, as a tool for mutual economic growth.

The meeting ended with a commitment to leveraging the FTA for new opportunities and strengthened economic relations.
