Viral Video of Locals Offering Massage Therapy to Foreign Tourists on Train General Manager of Sri Lanka Railways Calls Incident "Very Insulting"

The General Manager of Sri Lanka Railways, J.I.D. Jayasundara, voiced strong condemnation today regarding a viral video showing a group of locals providing massage therapy to foreign tourists aboard a train. In a press briefing earlier today,

Mr.Jayasundara described the incident as "very insulting" and stated that it was an unfortunate occurrence.

The video, which quickly gained traction on social media, depicted tourists receiving massages from local individuals while aboard a train. Many social media users expressed concern over the unprofessional nature of the interaction.

Clarifying the situation, Jayasundara stated that the incident did not take place on a regular passenger train operated by Sri Lanka Railways. Instead, it occurred on a special train that had been chartered by a private travel company for a specific tourist group.

He stressed that Sri Lanka Railways had no involvement in organizing or endorsing the event, and expressed disapproval over the conduct displayed.

"This kind of behavior is unacceptable and does not reflect the values or standards of Sri Lanka Railways," Jayasundara remarked. "We are investigating the matter and will take appropriate action to ensure such incidents do not happen again in the future."

Sri Lanka Railways is known for its scenic routes that attract both local and international tourists. The railway service has recently emphasized efforts to enhance its reputation and improve service quality for passengers, making the recent incident even more concerning for officials.

In response to the controversy, the private travel company involved has yet to issue a public statement. The authorities have indicated that they will engage with the company to review its operations and ensure adherence to the country's regulations and standards.

The incident has sparked a wider conversation about the professionalism and safety of services offered to tourists in Sri Lanka.
