President Returns to the Island After Successful State Visit to China
The visit, which spanned several days, focused on enhancing bilateral relations, strengthening economic cooperation, and fostering strategic partnerships between the two nations.
During his stay in Beijing, President Dissanayake engaged in high-level discussions with Chinese leadership, including President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang. Key areas of cooperation, including trade, infrastructure development, and technology transfer, were discussed, with both sides expressing mutual interest in deepening their ties.
The President also attended a series of cultural and diplomatic events, promoting Sri Lanka’s rich heritage and exploring avenues for greater people-to-people connections. Notably, the Sri Lankan leader participated in the signing of several Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) aimed at enhancing cooperation in areas such as education, tourism, and sustainable development.
In a statement upon arrival, President Dissanayake expressed his gratitude to the Chinese government for their warm hospitality and reiterated Sri Lanka’s commitment to furthering its partnership with China.
He noted that the visit had been a significant step toward realizing Sri Lanka’s long-term development goals, particularly in areas such as infrastructure modernization and economic diversification.
The President was warmly welcomed back to Sri Lanka by senior government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, and other well-wishers at Bandaranaike International Airport.
This visit marks another milestone in Sri Lanka's growing international relations, as the country continues to build strategic alliances in the region and beyond.
