The Railway Department has announced that, beginning January 1, 2025, it will be mandatory for passengers to provide their National Identity Card number or passport number when reserving train seats. This new policy aims to enhance passenger identification and improve security during travel.

As part of this measure, ticket inspectors will verify the National Identity Card number or passport number listed on the ticket when passengers board the train or enter the railway station.

This step ensures that the ticket holder is accurately identified, reducing the potential for fraudulent activities.

Additionally, the department has outlined new procedures for ticket refunds. Starting from January 1, 2025, passengers seeking to request a refund for their reserved seat tickets must submit a copy of their National Identity Card or passport at the railway station. This will help verify the identity of the ticket holder before any refunds are processed.

The Railway Department urges all passengers to ensure that they have their National Identity Card or passport details available when making ticket reservations and when requesting refunds.

The implementation of these policies is part of ongoing efforts to enhance safety, reduce fraud, and streamline ticketing processes for the benefit of all passengers.
