Sri Lanka ranked Among Top 25 Travel Destinations for 2025

Journalist Claire Turrell describes Sri Lanka as a destination that offers a diverse range of experiences, from misty hilltop tea plantations and wild elephants to ancient temples and world-class surfing. Despite declaring bankruptcy in April 2022, Sri Lanka is rebuilding its economy, with tourism playing a key role.

The country offers unique travel experiences, such as the legendary train rides through the mountainous interior, the newly launched 300 km Pekoe Trail through tea plantations, and opportunities to self-drive tuk-tuks, which directly benefit local owners. Visitors can also explore Colombo and Galle, where mixologists are reimagining arrack, a traditional drink.

Sri Lanka’s sustainable tourism efforts are highlighted by the Good Travel Seal initiative, which recognizes local businesses with eco-friendly practices. With connections to America, Europe and Australia through its airline services, Sri Lanka is making strides as a  must-visit destination.
