The Department of Irrigation has extended the flood warning for low-lying areas in the Malwathu Oya valley until 1:00 PM on Friday ( January 17). Residents and motorists in affected areas are urged to exercise caution, while disaster management authorities have been advised to take necessary precautions.
The initial warning, issued on January 15, highlighted significant rainfall in the upstream areas of Malwathu Oya. Current data indicates a possible minor flood situation in low-lying regions within the Vengalacheddikulam, Madu, Mussalai, and Nanaddan Divisional Secretariat Divisions.
The Department also warned that roads passing through the flood plains of Malwathu Oya could be submerged.
