The Standing Committee on Quality Assurance and Accreditation, tasked with evaluating the standards and quality of non-government higher education institutions in the country, convened today at the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education. The meeting was held under the leadership of Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya.

In her address, Prime Minister Amarasuriya emphasized the importance of maintaining and enhancing the quality of courses offered by non-state higher education institutions. She directed the committee members to formulate proposals and recommendations that would ensure these institutions meet the highest standards and align positively with their state counterparts.

The meeting marked the first session of the newly appointed committee, with Mr. Nalaka Kaluwewa, the Secretary to the Ministry of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education, chairing the discussions. The committee members reviewed the current state of non-government institutions and began deliberating on necessary policy measures to optimize their standards.

The committee’s efforts aim to bring non-state higher education institutions to the same level of quality and recognition as public educational establishments, fostering a more competitive and inclusive higher education landscape in the country.
