Sri Lanka's Ambassador to Thailand and Permanent Representative, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, recently met with Chatchai Bangchuad, Secretary-General of Thailand's National Security Council (NSC), to strengthen security collaboration between the two nations.

The meeting, according to Sri Lanka’s Embassy in Bangkok, emphasized enhancing bilateral efforts in areas such as national defense, combating human trafficking, and addressing regional security issues. Both sides stressed the importance of closer cooperation to tackle shared challenges.

Ambassador Edirisinghe highlighted the need for greater defense collaboration, knowledge-sharing on national security policy, and capacity-building programs to help Sri Lanka develop effective security frameworks.

In response, Secretary-General Bangchuad assured Thailand’s support in key areas and emphasized Thailand’s readiness to assist in combating human trafficking, particularly through rescue operations in cybercrime centers in Myanmar.

The NSC, under Thailand’s Prime Minister’s Office, plays a vital role in shaping the country’s defense policies. Ambassador Edirisinghe praised its expertise and expressed interest in learning from Thailand’s experience in national security policy implementation.

This meeting reinforces the strong partnership between Sri Lanka and Thailand and their commitment to regional stability, security, and shared prosperity, the statement added.
