Digital National Identity Cards to Be Issued This Month

Speaking at a media briefing, the Deputy Minister stated that all new National Identity Cards (NICs) will be converted into a digital format. This transition is expected to address the significant delays currently faced by citizens when obtaining identity cards.

The estimated cost of the digital identity card system is Rs. 20 billion. To ease the financial burden, India will cover half of this expense, Weeraratne added.
