Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa extended his heartfelt wishes to Tamil communities in Sri Lanka and worldwide on the occasion of Thai Pongal, recognizing its deep cultural significance and universal message of gratitude.
“The Thai Pongal festival, often referred to as the ‘harvest festival,’ carries profound cultural importance for Tamil communities around the globe,” he said, emphasizing the event as a tribute to nature and a celebration of gratitude for its blessings.
Premadasa urged all Sri Lankans to reflect on the festival’s message of thankfulness and consider the needs of underrepresented groups, stating, “Let’s cultivate gratitude and support for minor societies. Thai Pongal is a meaningful tradition celebrated by Tamil people across the globe.”
