The Maldives has retained its position as South Asia's most powerful travel document, according to the latest Henley Passport Index. The nation continues to dominate the region, ranking 52nd globally in 2025, climbing four spots from its 57th-place ranking last year.

The Henley Passport Index, which ranks countries based on the visa-free travel access provided to their citizens, includes data sourced from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

The Maldivian passport now allows holders to travel to 94 countries without the need for a visa, solidifying its place as a valuable travel document for locals.

The Maldives’ continued rise in the Henley Passport Index reflects its increasing global travel freedom and underscores its regional leadership in terms of passport strength.
