Former Member of Parliament Duminda Silva was admitted to Colombo National Hospital today ( January 11) following a sudden medical condition.
This comes just a day after he was transferred to the general ward of the Welikada Prison.
Dr. Kumara Wickramasinghe, Deputy Director of Colombo National Hospital, confirmed that Silva is currently receiving inpatient treatment.
Silva, who previously served as the Supervisory MP under the Ministry of Defence during the Mahinda Rajapaksa government, was convicted and sentenced to death. During his remand custody, he spent a considerable amount of time in hospitals.
These arrangements drew public criticism, with activists accusing authorities of granting Silva preferential treatment and VIP accommodations.
Previously, the Commissioner General of Prisons had reached out to the Director General of Health Services regarding Silva’s health, leading to the formation of an 18-member specialist medical team to assess his condition.
The medical committee’s recommendation, submitted to the Prisons Department yesterday ( January 10), stated that Silva no longer requires treatment in the prison hospital or any other medical facility. However, the report stressed the importance of providing immediate medical attention should any emergency health issues arise.
