Samarajeewa explained that, due to the adverse weather conditions, the spillways have been opened to a height of three feet, releasing approximately 2,000 cubic feet of water per second into the Kala Oya river. This measure has been taken to prevent overflow and ensure the safety of the reservoir infrastructure.
In light of the water discharge, the Irrigation Department has issued a warning to residents in low-lying areas along the Kala Oya to remain vigilant as water levels may rise. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and urge the public to take necessary precautions.
Local residents are advised to stay informed through official channels for updates on the weather and water levels.
